BARA, DEC 01 – Three accused including a former UML lawmaker  held in the murder of CPN-UML Bara-4 candidate Mohammad Alam have been remanded in judicial custody.

Bara District Court on Sunday passed the order for judicial remand of former UML Constituent Assembly member Ram Chandra Pyasi Kusawaha and two other Indian nationals—Atik Khan, 42, and Raju Shrivastava, 38, for further investigation.

Two motorcycle-borne assailants had opened fire at Alam from point-blank range in front of Chawasati Mill in Bara on October 4. Critically wounded, Alam was airlifted to Kathmandu-based Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital where he was declared dead after a week.

Along with UML lawmaker Kusawa, other two Indian nationals-Atik Khan and Raju Shrivastav were arrested in connection with Alam’s murder.

Alam was shot the day after he filed his candidacy for the November 19 CA elections.

Following Alam’s death, his widow Nazma Khatun filed her candidacy as the CPN-UML candidate from Bara constituency-4 and won the election from the area.
