Ghanashyam Open Golf Championship

Kathmandu, 9 June: The second event part of the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2012-13, Ghanashyam Open Golf Championship, will be played here at the Royal Nepal Golf Club from 10-13 June. The tournament is sponsored by the Nepal’s first professional Golfer and former president of NPGA, Ghana Shyam Thapa.The tournament will be played over 72 holes, in which 28 professional and 12 top amateurs will take part, there shall be a cut applied after 36 holes. 20 Top professional and amateurs who make the cut on the overall score will make it to the last 36 holes.

The playing condition of the course has been tweaked up for the tournament. Most participants played a practice round on the course to acclimatize with the conditions of the course. The event carries a total purse of Rs 300,000 (three lacks) and the winner will get a cheque of Rs. 55,000.  Runner-up will receive Rs 37000 and Third place will earn Rs 29000. Others in the top 21 will also receive their share of cash prizes.

Top ranked and winner of the Surya Nepal Masters Shiva Ram Shrestha along with Ramesh Nagarkoti, Umesh Nagarkoti, Rabi Khadka, and Sanjay Lama will be strong contenders of the event. Players of Surya Nepal NGA Youth Development Programme, Dinesh Prajapati, Bikash Bogati, Micheal Rai, Sunil KC, Ashish Pariyar along with Tashi Tshiring will be eying for the amateur title.

Sponsor and former president of NPGA Ghana Shyam Thapa said, “Professionals and top amateurs need competition opportunities, this event started as a mere effort to promote the game and the talents. I hope the professionals and amateurs will score low and make the competition fierce. I Shall continue to sponsor this event as far as I can.”
