There is an interesting scandal making rounds on the social media this week as a popular news portal OnlineKhabar is found to have scripted the mining of cryptocurrency on their website. This comes months after the Central bank of Nepal declared it is illegal to trade in cryptocurrencies like BitCoin, Etherium etc under Nepalese jurisdiction.
The script was discovered and posted on Facebook by Mr. Sachin Thakuri who posted the screenshot of the page source where the script is included and has also provided the video proof of the scandal being authentic.
On October 6, 2017, a task-force from the CIB arrested seven suspects allegedly involved with running “bitcoin exchange” operations. The CIB explains that the operators violated the order of the National Bank of Nepal stated until regulations are conceived bitcoin, and other cryptocurrency exchange businesses are “illegal.”
