Opple Golf Tournament, Wangchen wins trophy

 

Kathmandu 17 Sept: Wangchen Dhondup showed exceptional golfing skills to win the first Opple Golf Tournament here at par-72 Gokarna Golf Club. Playing with two handicap, Wangchen accumulated 41 stableford point for the win. He got Rs 50,000 worth Opple LED goods and golf goodies along with the trophies. Korean golfer, P.S. Han scored 39 points to finish runner-up in the tournament.

Wangchen also carded five-birdies to take the most birdies award. His birdies came on third, sixth, seventh, 10th and 14th holes. He made two bogeys on fourth and 16th holes. Due to one player-one prize rule, Capt. Norbu Sherpa got the best gross award. He scored 34 gross points. Maj. Gen. (retd) Mahesh Bikram Karki scored 36 points to win the senior(age 60 & above) trophy and Maj. Gen (retd) Daman B. Ghale finished runner-up in Senior category with 33 points. 

Rekha Ghimire was ladies winner with 35 points. Devasri Rana got the best junior award (age 17 & under) with 38 stableford points. Sonam Norbu Lama got closest to the pin, and Phunshok Lama won the longest drive award. The tournament sponsored by G.P. Trading Concern a company part of Triveni Group was participated by 80 golfers. The event was played under stableford format with 3/4 handicap. Directors of Triveni Group Sailesh and Rashi Sanghai, President of Gokarna Golf Club Suhrid Ghimire and Captain Joseph Nathan gave away the prizes to the winners of the tournament.
