Ajaya Bikram Shah won the Surya Nepal Gokarna Monthly Medal here at Gokarna Golf Club on Saturday. Shah playing of 16 handicap produced a nett score of four under par – 68 to clinch the title. Maj Gen Mahesh Bikram Karki was one shot behind Shah and finished runner-up with three under par – 67.Purna Bahadur Rai won the best gross award with the score of 83 (11 over par). Whereas Prabhakar Adhikari finished third with the nett score of even par -72 on the count back after he was tied with Nirakar Shrestha.
Total of 35 players took part in the tournament. sponsored by Surya Nepal Pvt. Ltd. President of Gokarna Golf Club, Suhrid Ghimire gave away the prizes to the winners of the tournament. The tournament was played under stroke play format with full handicap. After the eighth edition, Babu Sherpa and Maj. Gen (Rtd) Mahesh b. Karki are a top of the leaderboard with 190 points. Tendi Sherpa is third with 160 points.
Aditi Ghimire is fourth with 138 points. Ang Dendi Sherpa is lying fifth with 130 points. Maj Gen (rtd) Daman B. Ghale is sixth with 124 points. Brian Fawcett is lying seventh with 116 points. Sonam Ongdi Lama is eighth with 112 points. TG Shrestha, Rabindra Man Shrestha, Joesph Nathan, Bijay Bahadur Shrestha, Ajaya B. Shah and Nirakar Shrestha are tied ninth with 100 points.
One more medal rounds will be played and top thirty players will make it to the finals, which will be held over two medal rounds (18 holes each). In each medal round players in the top 10 will receive points. First place earn 100 points, Runner up will receive 60 points and 40 points for third place. 30, 24,20 points for 4th, 5th and 6th place and 16,14,12,10 for 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th places respectively in each medal rounds. Whereas in the finals winners will get double points.
Top 30 players will compete over 2 rounds for the club championship in the month of January and February 2014. Top 3 gross scorers of each edition shall also qualify for the final medal rounds.
