KATHMANDU, NOV 12 – Scores of vehicles were vandalised and bombs were planted at different parts of the country during the transportation strike called by the poll-opposing alliance of 33-political parties led by CPN-Maoist on Tuesday. Three vehicles were vandalised at Baneshwor this morning for defying the strike . Two taxis bearing registration number plates (Ba 1 Cha 7993, Ba 1 Cha 1962) were vandalised at Old Baneshwor and Mid-Baneshwor while a tempo (Ba 1 Ha 3623) was vandalised at New Baneshwor.
However, a large number of vehicles have been plying the road in the Capital as compared to Monday’s general strike and the banda has little effect in normal life. A moving passenger bus was torched by an unidentified group at Kalibas VDC in Chitwan along the Mungling-Narayangadh road section on Monday night.
Around 40 commuters slid out of the window panes of the burning bus to save their lives. The bus (Na 4 Kha 4734), en route to the Capital from Sarlahi, was completely destroyed in the arson.
Bombs defused
Similarly, a bomb planted at CPN-UML former Chief Whip Bhim Acharya’s home in Sunsari was defused by a bomb disposal team of Nepal Army. The bomb was planted at the gate of Acharya’s house. Acharya is also UML election candidate from Sunsari-6 in the forthcoming election.
Another bomb was defused at Shiva Dhara Chowk in Baglung district. Nepal Army bomb disposal team found the bomb in a suspected bag and was defused, said DSP Surendra Bahadur Gurung. However, Baglung district chapter of CPN-Maoist has denied the involvement of its cadres in planting the bomb.
Meanwhile, a vehicle belonging to proportional candidate of Rastriya Madhes Samajbadi Party, Amaja Raein, was vandalised by an unidenfied group in Siraha. Police said that the van was completely damaged in the attack. The van was parked at Raein’s home while it was attacked.
