NO PROVISION FOR CHANGING PRESIDENT, VICE PRESIDENT: KHAND

Butwal, Dec. 2: Nepali Congress central member and newly-elected Constituent Assembly ( CA) member Balkrishna Khand has said the Interim Constitution of Nepal has no provision of changing the President and Vice President in a new power equation.
Although this matter is against the constitution, the NC would settle this as it is raised as a political issue.A new constitution would be drafted easily if the CPN (UML), the second largest party in the new CA, took the matter easily and positively. It would be against the interest of nation if it is used as a means for bargaining for power.

Speaking at a press meet at Manigram of Rupandehi Constituency No. 3 from where he won the CA election, leader Khand said the establishment of durable peace and drafting of a democratic constitution is the inspiration and need of people and the Congress is committed to meeting such inspiration.

Every political party should accept the people’s verdict, he said, urging the UCPN (Maoist) to welcome the people’s mandate achieved through the November 19 CA election and participate in the constitution making process.

`     He further claimed that as per the people’s mandate, the NC will lead a new government by taking charge of the home and finance ministries. Party’s constituency president Yam Bahadur Khatri presided over the programme. RSS
