Bijay Bahadur Shrestha won the Surya Nepal Gokarna Monthly Medal here at Gokarna Golf Club on Saturday. Shestha and Aditi Ghimire both were tied at five under 67 nett. Shrestha won on the count back. Aditi Ghimire, youngster playing with 17 handicap, played 2 over on the front nine but collapsed on the back nine.
Maj Gen MB Karki finished third with the score of one under 71 nett. Gopal Chitrakar won the best gross title. Total of 36 players took part in the tournament. sponsored by Surya Nepal Pvt. Ltd. Captain of Gokarna Golf Club, Joseph Nathan gave away the prizes to the winners of the tournament. The tournament was played under stroke play format with full handicap.
After the eighth edition, Babu Sherpa in on top of the leaderboard with 190 points. Tendi Sherpa is second with 160 points. Ang Dendi Sherpa and Maj. Gen (rtd) Mahesh B. Karki are tied third with 130 points. Maj Gen (rtd) Daman B. Ghale and Aditi Ghimire are tied fifth with 124 points. Brian Fawcett is lying seventh with 116 points. Sonam Ongdi Lama is eighth with 112 points. TG Shrestha, Rabindra Man Shrestha, Joesph Nathan and Bijay Bahadur Shrestha are tied ninth with 100 points.
Two more medal rounds will be played and top thirty players will make it to the finals, which will be held over two medal rounds (18 holes each). In each medal round players in the top 10 will receive points. First place earn 100 points, Runner up will receive 60 points and 40 points for third place. 30, 24,20 points for 4th, 5th and 6th place and 16,14,12,10 for 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th places respectively in each medal rounds. Whereas in the finals winners will get double points.
Top 30 players will compete over 2 rounds for the club championship in the month of November and December. Top 3 gross scorers of each edition shall also qualify for the final medal rounds.
