BAITADI, NOV 30 – Migrant workers and students in the Far Western districts, who had come home from various parts Nepal as well as India to exercise their voting rights, have started leaving for their destinations after the Constituent Assembly election.
The workers and students from districts such as Baitadi, Darchula, Dadeldhura, Achham, Bajhang and Bajura of the region, who were supposed to go to their work right after the Tihar festival, had stayed longer to cast votes. Ram Singh, who was on his way to India for work, said they selected lawmakers through the election and now it was the responsibility of the elected leaders to draft new constitution.
Most returning migrant workers said party leaders should not repeat their past mistakes and wished that political stability and
peace would prevail in the country. They also demanded job opportunities youths in Nepal itself. “We selected our
representatives to write constitution forgiving their past
mistakes,” said Nabin Awasthi, a college student from Shankarpur VDC in the district who prolonged his stay by 15 days to cast vote in the election. According to the Jhulaghat-based police post, around 500 people have been going to India on a daily basis since mid-November.
